Sewanee is well known for its plethora of beautiful bluff views at different parts of campus, some of our favorites include Greens View at the end of Greens View road, “The Cross” at the end of Tennessee Ave, “Morgan’s Steep” accessible from South Carolina Ave to Morgans Steep Rd, and Proctors Hall which can be found from Tennessee Ave to Proctors Hall Rd, then turn off the little gravel drive. Greens View is great for a sunrise, the Cross, Morgan’s Steep and Proctor’s Hall are best at sunset.
This 26+ mile trail system skirts the perimeter of Sewanee. Take it by foot or by mountain bike! If you don’t want to do the whole thing, some of our favorite sections include The Gates of Sewanee to Greens View via Shakerag Hollow, Morgan’s Steep to Proctors Hall, and Proctors Hall to the Cross. Maps are available at Mountain Outfitters.
Abbo’s Alley is a great, short walk through the woods right through the heart of campus. This begins near the football field through the wrought iron gates and ends on South Carolina Avenue, but has options to exit at the ATO Spring, the Fowler Center, and right across from All Saints Chapel.
The University of the South offers outdoor tennis courts right next to the Sewanee Inn and Indoor Pickleball and Tennis courts at the Fowler Center on Texas Ave.
